The Purpose Of This Website:

I decided to create and host this website in order to help preserve old military music.  As time passes, more and more old recordings are lost.  I've always been partial to martial music and am an avid history buff.  Along with restoring and preserving old tunes for all to enjoy, I hope to create a vibrant online community by utilizing discussion board forums.  My hope is that users across the globe will continue to donate old recordings and share their knowledge.  This way, while one is listening to an old tune, they could read some history about the song and perhaps even view the lyrics in multiple languages.  

My Efforts On The Music:

I have been tinkering with music files for some time now and decided to put my skill to work in regards to this theme.  I collect old out of print military recordings.  Once I obtain an old recording, I check it for quality.  Most songs I get are recorded off old 78 and 33 speed LP's.  I do much of this recording myself.  I usually spend 30-60 minutes per song and attempt to get the majority of the snaps, crackle, hiss and pops out of the recording.  I also adjust the volume and mix the channels.  This allows for simulated stereo for the old mono recordings.  I have over 450 military song files in my archive.  
My original idea was to only put songs on this site that I have re-mastered and checked for quality.  I've realized that the re-mastering of these old songs is going to take forever, so I decided that I am going to also offer tunes that have yet to be worked on.  I would like to point out that many of these songs are VERY old.  I can only work with what I have and am unable to "create" music in the event of major skips.  I have decided to put up some songs that contain distortions rather than not offer them at all.  I have been working on these songs off and on for about 6 years and only a small portion of my collection is currently available.  Contributors from around the world often send me additional music for us all to enjoy.  I will be adding a few songs every so often.  Continue to check back for updates.  I hope you enjoy the history and the music as much as I do.  Should you ever notice a problem with one of the files, please contact me here and let me know.  If you have an old military song file you'd like to see cleaned up, let me know and I can probably take care of it for you.

Community Efforts:

For me to even dream of getting this website close to the condition that I want, I am going to require staggering amounts of input from my fellow historians and enthusiasts.  As the new design takes shape and the online community grows, I hope that others will step up and volunteer to help moderate forums, research and assist with other tasks.  Should you be an enthusiast and have the desire and time to help this community grow, please contact me.
